This is your weekly dose of all things podcasting and today we’re talking my predictions for 2023. Each year every creative and business tries to explore how to improve their content and best way to get their brand and message in front of their target audience.
So here’s my top 4 Podcast Predictions that will resonate with your audience in 2023 and maybe beyond. .
4 Podcasting Predictions for 2023
1. YouTube is going to become a major player in how podcasters are discovered. Some people say YouTube already had its moment, but I believe now’s our time. But with the rise of podcasts on YouTube also comes the need for YouTube production & YouTube strategy. You’re going to need to think about professional cameras and audio and bring your show to life visually.
2. Short form content will also take over the podcasting industry. Our attention spans are shrinking at an alarming rate – if you’re creating content in 2023, you need to adapt to that with shorter podcast episodes. With clients at Adobe Media, we’re seeing drop off rates at 22-25 minutes. On Podcast Trapper I keep these shows to about 20 minutes, max.
3. Collaboration (not ad spend) will be the key to discovery. Unfortunately, gone are the days where you can post your show on social media and your audience magically finds you. More and more people are spending ad dollars that are simply not resonating with people. But if there's somebody I already tune into, somebody that I trust, that I already like their content, and you guys are collaborating together, I'm gonna be more inclined to tune into your episode and tune into your content.
4. Do you need a podcast ‘community’? In the past few years people have revolved their podcast strategies around creating a community for their podcast. However, I believe that this is not necessary for building a successful podcast in 2023. We need to start looking for strategies and ways to grow that help us, and not simply follow what other people are doing.
There are definitely more points out there that I could touch on – but I believe if we focus on these 4 things, we can make a difference in what we’re doing and how we’re getting our content out there. It’s too easy to get burnt out, and to combat that, we need to hone our focus and choose our priorities.
I hope these predictions help you plan and strategize for 2023. If you want a quarterly review of these predictions, let me know on thepodcasttrapper.com or over on Instagram @onaoghogho I’ll see y’all next week.
